Connecticut Newborn Photographer

This little love bug was so sweet and mom and dad were just overjoyed!  This little guy hardly made a peep and just absolutely loved my warm studio that was pumped with white noise! I have to admit, that many new parents have fallen asleep while in my studio for their newborn session. I mean, how can  you not? New parents are exhausted, and its warm and cozy and comfy.  Not only that, its probably the first time someone has taken care of their baby for 2 hours straight. Many just sit back and relax on the couch and appreciate the time to just be.

What made you choose Sweet Melissa Photography for your newborn session?
I had seen Melissa’s work on social media – Facebook and instagram. I absolutely loved how beautiful the newborn sessions were. The pictures were totally my style, very rustic and organic. I knew when it came time, we would be choosing Sweet Melissa Photography for an in-studio session. Fortunately, before we had the newborn session, we booked a maternity session – which came out awesome!! That first encounter with Melissa was so great. She was friendly, creative, and willing to brave the cold/snow for a very unique maternity session since it snowed the day of our pictures! We knew then that we were in good hands!

What was your favorite part about your session?
Besides all the amazing props Melissa has, ee enjoyed watching how well our son was taken care of by Melissa during our session. Melissa was very patient and gentle. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were at home and with family.

How did you feel when you saw your final images?
We were IN LOVE with our final images! Being first time parents we had so many emotions within the first two weeks of Greyson’s life. Seeing the photos of him and our little family brought tears to our eyes. He was perfect. The pictures were perfect. And now we have images that we will cherish for a lifetime.

Would you recommend a newborn session with Sweet Melissa Photography to your friends?
Absolutely!! It’s worth the investment whether it’s your first baby or fifth baby! Babies are only so little for such a short period of time. It’s important to capture these moments and photos of your growing family. They’re something we will look back on. I’m happy we did both maternity and newborn sessions. Look forward to future family photos and someday some more newborn sessions 🙂

What made you choose Sweet Melissa Photography for your boudoir experience?
I heard nothing but great things about Melissa and they were all true. She’s an amazing person to work with and comes highly recommended.

Were you nervous about your shoot?
A little bit but who wouldn’t be. She makes you feel so comfortable in your own skin that you don’t want to stop taking pictures because it’s so much fun.

What was your favorite part about your session?
I loved every second of it from the time your getting glammed up to the very end. Melissa is a great girl to work with and there is nothing but laughs from the time you start till the time you end.

When I first saw my final images,  I was blown away! I couldn’t believe that was really me. Never in a million years would I have thought I could pull something like this off for my boyfriend. With Melissa’s amazing talent and her directing you there’s no way that your pictures won’t be amazing.

What are you taking away from your boudoir experience?
More self confidence in myself. Every girl should love themselves for what they have and that body that they are given. Melissa just gives you that extra boost of self confidence.

Would you recommend a boudoir session to your friends?
Absolutely! I think everyone who can do a session should absolutely do one. Even if it’s not for someone else, do it for yourself and love the body you’re in.

Newborn Photography

When you book a newborn session, it reserves a session in Melissa’s calendar. Your due date will be penciled in and then shortly after you give birth, you would contact Melissa to confirm a session date and time.  All sessions take place with babies under 14 days old, (best around 6-12 days of age) at Melissa’s in-home studio in Farmington, CT for posed and prop work. Lifestyle sessions (documentary/candid) take place in the comfort of your own home (up to 30 minutes outside of Farmington, CT). Please book your newborn session while pregnant. Last minute session inquiries (after baby is born) are not always available.

Why newborn photography?
They will only be newborns once and you want to capture that brief moment in time! Newborns must be photographed within with the very first 2 weeks of life (best around 6 to 12 days old).  At this time, they are very sleepy and tiny and still have that fetal bend and curl that will only last for a few days! Before you know it, your newborn baby will be crawling, then walking and talking.  As a mom of 2 boys, I know first hand how quickly those first few days go by and I am so glad that I have their images to help me remember those early moments.

When should I have my newborn photographed?
As mentioned above, newborns are best photographed within their first 2 weeks of life. At this time, they are very sleepy and curly and they allow me to pose them well.  When they sleep, we can very easily move them into cuddly, precious positions and adorn them with hats and headbands with little to no complaints!

When should I schedule my newborn session?
When you get a positive pregnancy test- no joking. But please at least schedule your newborn session while you are still pregnant. A good time frame would be no later than 25-35 weeks. This way we can “pencil” in a tentative date. Obviously, expected due dates can vary greatly, usually anywhere between 2 weeks early to two weeks late. If you book early enough, I can be sure to clear my schedule within the time frame of your due date. Once you give birth, please call me to let me know you have had the baby, and we will confirm a final date. Trust me, when you get home from the hospital, you will feel overwhelmed. Most likely you won’t get around to finding a photographer until at least after your baby is a month old. At that time, we have missed that “newborn” opportunity. So book early!

Should I book an in-home lifestyle session or an in-studio posed session? read about the differences here

Where will the newborn session take place?
Due to my many props, backdrops and floors, all posed newborn sessions with props are done in my home studio  in Farmington, CT.

If you prefer a more intimate, documentary/candid session, then we can hold a lifestyle session in the comport of your own home.

Will I be included in the photos? What about other members of my family?

Sure! As a new mom once myself, I remember what it feels like those first few weeks home from the hospital. In other words, I did not want to go anywhere near anyone with a camera! But I definitely regret not being in those first few pictures with my son. I encourage all new moms and dads to be a part of the newborn photo session. Older siblings may also be included into your session for more of a family style session. It does depend on what type of session you are booking so just ask!
